Q. I'm newly engaged and don't know where to start to find my wedding dress. Any advice?
It certainly can seen like a daunting task when there are so many bridal gown options out there. Keep focused the following to give you a guideline. When is the wedding? Where is the venue- Garden or restaurant? Church ceremony or celebrant?
If you're getting married in winter, cap sleeves can seem more appropriate in the cold. Garden weddings work wonderfully with lace or lace overlays in a-line shapes or sheers in floaty layers. Restaurant or indoor venues will suit more glammed up bridal designs. Think demure or classic for a church ceremonies.
Your guest list can play a part too. If you are inviting mostly family for a small classic intimate affair, then this should be reflected in what you wear. While if you're having a fun wedding with the majority of guests as friends, a fashion gown could work very well. Start by finding your favourite dresses from your current wardrobe and figure out what it is about them that flatters you. This will give you an idea of the silhouettes and necklines you should start by looking for.
Q. Is wearing a fashion dress rather than a bridal gown ok?
Of course it is. With so many fashion designers branching out with bridal collections (such as Collette Dinnigan, Alex Perry and Lisa Ho), the 2 worlds are merging as one. Make sure the type of wedding you are planning will suit a wow fashion gown rather than a classic design but most importantly. Be yourself and let you gown choice reflect this.
TIP - If you're choosing a gown that is very fashion forward, keep it bridal by going for natural white.
Q. I have 4 very different bridesmaids and don't know how to keep them all happy and still have them looking unified on the day.
Finding one dress to suit 4 different girls is a tall order. if you can find one colour that suits all their tastes and complexions, than you can unify them on the day by allowing them to choose different dress styles but all in this one colour. It's important this colour reflects your wedding look so if this won't work then a neutral might be best such as black or a matt silver.
Alternatively choosing complimentary colours can be stunning such as pale pink, ice blue, lilac and mint green for their dresses and then incorporating these pastels into your bouquet.
Another great option is to go with a dress that can be worn several ways. Twobirds has a great silk jersey dress that can be tied, wrapped and rolled to be worn 15 different ways to suit every body type. (02) 9699 2778.
